This Monday, the ICC will hold a video conference with its council members to decide whether the T20 World Cup can proceed. The outcome is highly anticipated by organizations like the BCCI, as they need a definitive answer to properly schedule and organize the next IPL season.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) will be meeting on Monday to decide on the T20 World Cup. The meeting will be conducted virtually through video conference with the attendance of the members of the council. Much of the members, specifically the BCCI needs a clear picture of the fate of the T20 World Cup event so they can make the appropriate arrangements for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Due to the ongoing health crisis in India, where COVID-19 cases have surpassed 10 lakh and deaths have reached nearly 26,000, the BCCI Apex Council is preparing a backup plan. They are looking at hosting the IPL in the UAE during October and November if the ICC decides to postpone the T20 World Cup.
Following an inconclusive meeting in July, the ICC is revisiting the issue today. Since Cricket Australia has already indicated that hosting the event this year isn't viable, it is widely expected that the tournament will be rescheduled.
The recent decision to move the PCB's Asia Cup to 2021 sets a precedent for this meeting. However, the ICC faces a tough choice: postponing the T20 World Cup would result in a massive financial loss, yet playing without fans is simply not practical. All eyes are now on Monday's decision.
