India vs West Indies: Captain Virat Kohli moves ahead of Rohit Sharma in T20I rankings

Virat Kohli hit another major milestone this Sunday during India's 2nd T20 International clash with the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. By scoring key runs, the Indian captain leaped over Rohit Sharma to once again lead the list of the highest run-getters in T20 International history. Kohli now holds the record with 2,563 runs, just one run ahead of Sharma's 2,562.

Going into the game, Kohli was trailing Sharma by a mere 3 runs. However, since Rohit opened the innings and scored 15 before falling to Jason Holder, the gap widened. Consequently, Kohli needed to score 18 runs during his time at the crease to reclaim the top spot in the shortest format of the game.

Kohli managed to achieve the feat, scoring 19 runs off 17 balls. Although he was eventually dismissed by Kesrick (caught by Simmons) while trying to hit a big boundary, he had already done enough to surpass Rohit Sharma's total before leaving the field.

In the first T20I, Kohli played a pivotal role in India's successful chase of 208 runs, scoring a brilliant 94 and finishing the game with eight balls to spare. His explosive 35-ball fifty, which included six fours and six sixes, propelled India to 209-4 in 18.4 overs. This marked his 23rd half-century in T20 Internationals, the highest number achieved by any player.
