India snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory against Bangladesh in the first ODI. Bangladesh started the three-match ODI series with a thrilling one-wicket win over India in Dhaka. Chasing a below-par 187, Mehindy Hasan emerged as the star player of the day and scored an unbeaten 38 to take his side home with fours overs to spare. Mustafizur Rahman supported him well by chipping in with 10 runs.
India's batting collapsed early on when Hasan removed Shikhar Dhawan for 7 in the 6th over. The pressure mounted in the 11th over as Shakib Al Hasan struck twice, dismissing Rohit Sharma (27) and Virat Kohli (9), the latter falling to a spectacular catch by Litton Das. Shreyas Iyer (24) and KL Rahul then attempted to rebuild with a 43-run partnership.
A 63-run stand between Rahul and Washington Sundar (19) for the fifth wicket provided some hope, but Shakib's five-wicket haul and Hossain's four wickets eventually saw India bundled out for 186. KL Rahul was the most effective batter, scoring 73 off 70 balls.
India initially dominated the bowling, with Deepak Chahar claiming a golden duck from Najmul Shanto on the first ball. Despite this, captain Das scored 41 and partnered with Shakib (29) for a key 48-run stand. For much of the game, India was in total control, leaving the hosts reeling at 136/9 with victory seemingly impossible.
However, a few critical mistakes turned the tide; Rahul dropped a simple catch and Sundar missed another opportunity at third man. These lapses allowed Bangladesh to pull off a stunning comeback victory.
