India's U-19 Women's team dominates England to secure the T20I World Championship

The Indian U-19 Women's team made history at Potchefstroom's Senwes Park, defeating England by 7 wickets in the final of the debut U-19 T20I World Cup. By delivering a powerhouse performance across all facets of the game, the 'Women in Blue' comfortably beat England to claim the 2023 ICC title. This win is particularly special as the last time an Indian women's team appeared in a World Cup final was during the 2005 ODI tournament. The teenage stars have earned widespread praise from seasoned cricketers for their historic feat this past Sunday.
Indian Women’s team thrashed England by 7 wickets in the finals of the inaugural U-19 T20I World Cup at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. Women in Blue produced a brilliant performance in all three departments to outclass England and clinched a historic title victory at the 2023 ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup. Indian women first made it to the final of a World Cup 18 years ago, during the 2005 ODI World Cup. Many cricketers congratulated the teenage Indian girls who scripted history on Sunday.

After deciding to bowl first, India took early control when Titas Sadhu dismissed Liberty Heap for a duck in the very first over. The momentum shifted further in the fourth over, where Archana Devi struck twice, cleaning up Niamh Holland for 10 and England's skipper Grace Scrivens for just 4.

Despite Ryana MacDonald-Gay's efforts to anchor the innings with 19 runs, England failed to build any meaningful partnerships. Constant wicket losses left them reeling, and India's clinical bowling and fielding restricted England to a disappointing total of 68 before they were all out in 17.1 overs.

Captain Shafali Verma tried to ignite the chase with an aggressive start, hitting a boundary and a massive six. However, her stay was short-lived as she mistimed a shot and was dismissed for 15.

Shweta Sehrawat contributed only 5 runs before returning to the pavilion. England managed to stay in the game briefly with disciplined bowling and agile fielding that kept the run rate down. Ultimately, however, a crucial partnership between Soumya Tiwari (24*) and Gongadi Trisha (24) guided India to their first-ever women's World Cup trophy.
