The Indian men's doubles duo of S Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have officially pulled out of the Thailand Masters.

The BWF Tour's fourth stop of the year, the Thailand Masters, kicks off on January 31, 2023, at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok. This Super 300 event, which concludes on February 5, offers prize money totaling $210,000. After a two-year break, the tournament is back with top-tier talent such as Lu Guangzhu, Carolina Marin, Ratchanok Intanon, and Indian Open champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn. Leading the Indian contingent are Saina Nehwal in the women's singles and Tokyo Olympian Sai Praneeth in the men's singles.

Commonwealth Games winners Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are sidelined for the Thailand Open Super 300. This is due to Satwik's recent hip injury, which occurred during the India Open Super 750 in New Delhi and resulted in his mid-tournament withdrawal.

Chirag explained that since his partner's injury is still healing, the world number 6 pair cannot compete in Thailand. Instead, they are setting their sights on the All England Open Championships in March 2023. Had they played, they were slated to go up against Ye Hong Wei and Su Ching Heng from Chinese Taipei in the first round.

With the top-seeded Indian pair out, the responsibility of leading India's men's doubles charge falls to world number 34s Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala. Krishna noted that while they are performing well in Super 100 and 300 events, they need to refine their skills further to secure wins in higher-tier competitions.

The 22-year-old athlete mentioned that their immediate goal for the year is to break into the top 20. While Krishna feels their offensive strategy is effective, he admitted that a lack of consistency is their main hurdle, and they are working hard to stabilize their game to reach the next level.

Praneeth, a former Singapore Open champion, faces a tough opening match against China's second seed, Lu Guang Zu. Meanwhile, Sameer Verma, returning from injury, will battle China's sixth seed Li Shi Feng. Mithun Manjunath is set to compete against Japan's Kenta Nishimoto, the fifth seed. Having reached the finals of the Orleans Masters Super 300 last year, Manjunath is aiming for a similar deep run in Thailand.
