Ravi Shastri claims the 1985 Indian team would give Virat Kohli's current lineup a real challenge in limited-overs cricket

In a conversation with the host of ‘Sony Ten Pit Stop,’ legendary all-rounder Ravi Shastri expressed his belief that the 1985 Indian team could hold their own against the current side led by Virat Kohli. He also touched upon his World Cup memories, specifically the 'Player of the Tournament' honors shared by himself, Kapil Dev, and Mohinder Amarnath, and the Audi car associated with that achievement.

Reflecting on his career, the former batsman compared India's World Cup victories in 1983 against the West Indies and 1985 against Pakistan. Shastri maintains that the 1985 squad was actually the superior unit. According to him, the inclusion of experienced players like Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Sadanand Viswanath—who had already tasted success in 1983—gave the '85 team a psychological and technical edge that made them the strongest iteration of the team.

Ravi Shastri recounted a funny story about the Audi car he received as the Player of the Tournament in 1985. He recalled teammates joking about the prize; Jimmy Amarnath suggested Kapil Dev might sell the car and split 75% of the profit, while Shastri jokingly imitated Dev, saying he would only lend the spare tire if he won.
