The Delhi Capitals climbed back to the top of the IPL leaderboard after cruising to an 8-wicket victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dubai International Stadium. The win was set up by a clinical bowling display from DC's pace attack, which held SRH to just 134/9 in 20 overs. With a target of 135 to chase, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant anchored the innings with a strong partnership to seal a comfortable win.
Having opted to bat first, SRH suffered an immediate setback when Anrich Nortje dismissed David Warner for a duck in the opening over. Wriddhiman Saha and Kane Williamson attempted to rebuild the innings with a 29-run partnership, but Kagiso Rabada ended Saha's stay at 18. The SRH captain, Williamson, also failed to make a significant impact, scoring only 18. The Sunrisers were unable to find their scoring touch, as wickets fell steadily throughout the innings.
Abdul Samad was the top scorer for SRH with 28 runs, with Rashid Khan contributing 22. DC's bowling effort was led by Rabada, who took three wickets, while Nortje and Avesh Khan picked up two apiece. DC's chase started fast, though they lost Prithvi Shaw early in the power-play following a great running catch by Williamson off Khaleel Ahmed. Despite this, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer kept the momentum going, adding 50 runs to their total.
The partnership was eventually broken by Rashid Khan, who dismissed Dhawan for 42 after a sharp catch by Abdul Samad. This brought captain Rishabh Pant to the crease, where he and Iyer shared an unbeaten 67-run stand to finish the game. Iyer ended the match undefeated on 47, while Pant added a quick-fire 35 from 21 deliveries.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad remain stuck at the bottom of the rankings. Having suffered seven defeats, their hopes of reaching the playoffs have all but vanished.
