Kenya claimed an eight-wicket victory over Nigeria with 16 balls left in the opening fixture of the 2019 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa qualifiers in Kampala, according to a Xinhua report from May 20.
Because of heavy rainfall on Monday morning, the ICC reduced the match length from 20 overs to 15 in Kampala.
Nigeria elected to bat and put on 105/5.
Nigeria's batting effort was led by Leke Oyede, who scored 27 runs, while Isaac Okpe and Ovais Yousof contributed 19 and 14 runs, respectively.
Kenya reached the target of 106/2 with little trouble. Dhiren Gondaria played a pivotal role with 47 runs, supported by Alex Obanda's 27 runs.
Alex Obanda from Kenya remarked that the team is off to a great start and must keep their current drive going.
The upcoming schedule features the host nation, Uganda, competing against Botswana, while Ghana is set to play against the tournament favorites, Namibia.
Six teams are currently facing each other in a round-robin league. The two highest-ranked teams will advance to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup qualifier in the UAE this year, where they will compete for one of six spots in the main World Cup event taking place in Australia next October.
The two teams that qualify from the African region will be joined by Papua New Guinea.
