Sunday's clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru was an absolute rollercoaster for the fans. The game reached a fever pitch in the final over with RCB requiring 21 runs to win. Phil Salt almost pulled off the impossible by smashing Mitchell Starc for three sixes, but a last-ball run-out sealed a 1-run win for KKR. The KKR bowlers deserve a lot of credit for maintaining their discipline and executing their plans perfectly during the closing stages of the match.
It was a fun thriller for cricket fans as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) played an absolute breath-taking match on Sunday. With 21 runs to get off the final over, RCB’s Phil Salt pulled off a miracle, hitting Mitchell Starc for three sixes but KKR and Phil Salt held their nerve to effect a run-out off the last, eventually winning the game by 1 run. KKR bowlers stayed calm and bowled brilliantly in death overs to make it tough for RCB.
KKR got off to a flying start thanks to Salt's aggressive batting, where he piled up 56 runs in 4 overs, including 7 fours and 3 sixes. His whirlwind 48 off 14 balls was finally stopped by Mohammed Siraj. The momentum shifted briefly in the following over when Yash Dayal struck twice, cleaning up both Angkrish Raghuvanshi for 3 and Sunil Narine for 10.
The innings continued with a composed half-century from skipper Shreyas Iyer and a supporting 16 from Venkatesh Iyer. Although Rinku Singh was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson while batting well on 24, Andre Russell's vital 27 and Ramandeep Singh's explosive 24 from 9 balls helped KKR reach a total of 222/6. RCB's bowling effort was led by Cameron Green and Yash Dayal, who each claimed two wickets.
Facing a daunting target of 223, RCB looked promising early on as Virat Kohli hit several boundaries before a controversial dismissal ended his stay. The loss of captain Faf du Plessis for just 7 runs put RCB in a precarious position. However, the game swung back in their favor through a dominant partnership between Will Jacks (55) and Rajat Patidar (52). The duo dismantled the KKR spinners, adding 102 runs for the third wicket and putting RCB in a winning position. The tide turned again when Andre Russell entered the attack and dismissed both set batters in a single over. The collapse deepened in the 13th over as Sunil Narine took two more wickets. Despite late contributions of 24 from Suyash Prabhudessai and 25 from Dinesh Karthik, RCB fell just short of the target.
