KKR player Tim Seifert is currently in strict isolation in New Zealand after receiving a positive Covid-19 result. The news left him momentarily overwhelmed with emotion, though he managed to pull himself together shortly after.
While recounting his time in India, KKR's wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Seifert broke down in tears, recalling how a positive Covid-19 test during the 2021 IPL left him stranded in the country after all other foreign athletes had already departed.
Due to a spike in infections within the bio-bubble, the 2021 IPL was halted indefinitely. Tim Seifert became the last overseas player to leave India, and upon his return to New Zealand, he was placed under mandatory quarantine.
Speaking from his hotel in Auckland via video link, Seifert confessed to reporters, 'It felt like everything was crashing down.' He described the psychological toll of the unknown, fearing that he would experience the same dire health crises as others.
Overcome by the weight of his memories, Seifert had to stop for a moment to collect his thoughts and steady his breathing before he could go on.
He highlighted the terror of reading Indian news reports about the critical lack of oxygen, admitting that the sheer unpredictability of how the virus affects each individual was the most frightening aspect.
Despite only suffering from mild physical symptoms, the mental strain proved to be the hardest part of the experience for Seifert. He was among a group of positive cases that included Prasidh Krishna, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sandeep Warrier.
