Punjab Kings (PBKS) produced an all-round performance to secure a 5-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Despite a challenging target of 145, the Royals displayed aggressive bowling. Avesh Khan’s early breakthroughs set the tone for RR, backed by Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal’s spin, putting Punjab under pressure with four wickets down for under 50 runs.
The match swung in Punjab's favor thanks to captain Sam Curran, who anchored the chase with a superb, undefeated 63. He was aided by a timely 22 from Jitesh Sharma, while Rilee Rossouw's aggressive shot-making (22) ensured the chase stayed viable. Ashutosh Sharma added a final 17* to seal the win. For his dual impact as a bowler and a batter, Curran rightfully took home the Player of the Match trophy.
Sanju Samson's toss decision to bat first didn't pay off, as the Royals stumbled early when Sam Curran took the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Samson and Tom Kohler Cadmore managed to stabilize things slightly with a 36-run partnership, but Ellis eventually dismissed the skipper. After Rahul Chahar removed Cadmore for 18, Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin fought back, building a promising 50-run stand for the fourth wicket.
That partnership was eventually severed by Arshdeep Singh, who dismissed Ashwin for 28. Riyan Parag, who has been in great form, eventually fell after a solid 48. A quick 12 from Trent Boult helped the Royals scrape together a total of 144/9 by the end of their 20 overs. On the bowling side, Curran, Chahar, and Harshal Patel were the standouts for Punjab, each claiming two wickets.
