The Uruguayan forward was dismissed with a straight red card after clashing with Joachim Andersen. Around the 58th minute, the two became entangled in a scuffle. Nunez initially tried a light nudge with his head but missed; however, Andersen responded by shoving the striker from behind. Losing his composure, Nunez spun around and delivered a sharp, violent headbutt to the defender.
After the impact, Andersen covered his face and collapsed to the turf. Referee Paul Tierney didn't hesitate, immediately showing Nunez the red card. The veteran James Milner had to step in to calm the young player and guide him off the field.
Playing with a man disadvantage, Liverpool struggled to break down a disciplined Palace defense organized by Patrick Vieira. However, the deadlock was broken by a moment of individual brilliance from Luis Diaz, who scored a stunning equalizer in the 61st minute.
