Elena Rybakina becomes the third player to punch her ticket to the 2026 WTA Finals.

Joining the ranks of top-tier stars Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina is now the third player confirmed for the 2023 WTA Finals. After a strong showing at the Australian Open where she finished as the runner-up, Rybakina has made history as the first Kazakhstani athlete to qualify for the year-end championships, climbing to third in the WTA Race after surpassing 5,420 points.

The 26-year-old has reached new heights this year, claiming titles at the WTA 1000 events in Rome and Indian Wells—an unprecedented achievement for a player from Kazakhstan. Even after failing to defend her Wimbledon crown, she showed great resilience during the North American hard-court season. She broke through to the semifinals of the Canadian Open despite a packed schedule, and while her US Open run ended in the third round against Sorana Cirstea, her general level of play and world ranking have seen a significant boost.

With a dominant 42-14 record this year, Rybakina is playing the best tennis of her career, maintaining a 75% win rate that surpasses her 2022 stats, and she still has plenty of tennis left to play this season. This success is particularly sweet because she came so close to qualifying last year, only to be denied in the final moments of the season after losing a tight match to Jessica Pegula in Guadalajara.

Rybakina has now guaranteed her place in the tournament, following in the footsteps of Swiatek and Sabalenka. There are still five remaining spots to be decided, with the race tightening between players like Daria Kasatkina and Ons Jabeur, who are separated by less than 1,000 points.

The qualified trio—Swiatek, Sabalenka, and Rybakina—should mark October 29 to November 5 on their calendars for the championships in Cancun, Mexico. While WTA CEO Steve Simon expressed great excitement about the venue, the scheduling is grueling; the Billie Jean King Cup Finals begin in Seville just two days after the Cancun event ends, forcing players to travel across the globe almost instantly.

Steve Simon voiced his gratitude toward GS Sports Management for their hard work in organizing the event. He noted that this edition of the WTA Finals would be a thrilling experience for both the athletes and the crowd, serving as a perfect conclusion to the 2023 Hologic WTA Tour and helping to strengthen the future of women's professional tennis.
