India vs England Test Series 2018: The athlete injured during the Nottingham clash is keen to return for the fourth Test. As England's top performer so far in the series, he is pushing to play regardless of his injury.

Southampton: England's Jonny Bairstow is aiming to play in the fourth Test against India, scheduled for August 30 in Southampton, despite dealing with a left-finger injury. He believes he is fit enough to play as a pure batsman, though he is hoping to handle the wicketkeeping responsibilities as well.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Bairstow shared, 'My finger is recovering well. While we're still monitoring the full extent of the injury, the inflammation has subsided. It's a huge improvement from a few days ago when I struggled with basic movements, like reaching into my pocket.' He mentioned that he would try wicketkeeping on Tuesday evening to gauge his readiness. Bairstow emphasized his desire to be part of the game, noting that if keeping isn't possible, he'll step in as a specialist batter, although he prefers to keep his role as the wicketkeeper. He even pointed out a strange trend in his own stats, noting that he tends to bat better when he is also keeping wicket.
Bairstow was sidelined after picking up an injury while keeping during the third Test. Medical scans revealed a fracture in his finger, although the bone remained in place, which increased the likelihood of a speedy recovery. In his absence, Jos Buttler took over the gloves. Regardless of whether Bairstow returns as a keeper or just a batsman, his presence in the fourth Test will be a significant boost for the England squad.
Currently, Bairstow stands as England's most successful batter in this series against India. Across five innings in the first three Tests, he has accumulated 206 runs at an average of 41.20, including two half-centuries. He is closely followed by Jos Buttler, who has scored 170 runs in five innings, highlighted by a century (106) during the Nottingham Test.
