Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a thrilling 3-wicket win over defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. Chasing a stiff 178, the Royals’ captain Sanju Samson led an incredible fightback with a top-scoring knock of 60. Shimron Hetmyer played an electrifying unbeaten knock of 56 off just 26 balls and guided his team to seal a crucial win. With this win, RR remains at the top of the points table with 8 points.
Having decided to bowl first, RR got off to a flyer as Trent Boult removed Wriddhiman Saha for 4 in the very first over. The pressure mounted when Jos Butler executed a perfect run-out to dismiss Sai Sudharsan for 20. Although Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya managed to stabilize the innings with a 59-run stand, it ended when Yuzvendra Chahal took Pandya's wicket for 38.
Sandeep Sharma provided a crucial breakthrough in the 16th over by dismissing Gill for 45. Despite this, David Miller's solid 46 and a quick 27 from Abhinav Manohar pushed the Titans to a competitive total of 177/7 by the end of their 20 overs.
The chase started disastrously for RR, as Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya tore through the top order, removing Yashavi Jaiswal (1) and Jos Butler (0) early on. Rashid Khan added to the misery by dismissing Devdutt Padikkal for 26. The momentum shifted, however, when Sanju Samson began hitting boundaries and sixes to keep the game alive. He and Hetmyer forged a rapid 59-run partnership in just 27 balls, bringing RR within striking distance. Ultimately, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who sealed the win with a boundary and a six, finishing the game with 4 balls remaining.
